George Gruber, 72, Paramus Resident

PARAMUS, N.J. -- George Gruber, of Paramus, died on Saturday, Jan 21. He was 72.

"George graduated Leonia High School in 1962, where he was a standout athlete in several sports." After high school, Gruber joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. While in the Army, he was an award-winning sharpshooter, and he earned the Army of Occupation Medal.

"After the service, George worked with his brother Steve in the construction industry, where he learned to operate heavy equipment," information from the funeral home noted. "In 2003 George became a proud member of Local 825 Operating Engineers."

He worked for the American Pile & Foundation. He as an avid golfer and loved to travel. "He will be missed by all who knew him," the funeral home added.

Gruber is survived by his brother John Gruber and his wife Eileen; nephews Stephen Gruber and his wife Deborah, John Gruber and Daniel Gruber; niece Sallie Gruber; great-nephews Stephen Gruber and Nicholas Klein; girlfriend Dorothy Chin; and many friends and co-workers.

He was predeceased by his brother Stephen Gruber and sister-in-law Beatrice Gruber.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home, in Ridgewood, with burial to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, in Paramus.
