Hawthorne Gluten-Free Bakery Serves A Diverse Community
HAWTHORNE, N.J. — Gluten-free food isn't a luxury, says Nancy Kriney, whose husband, Scott, owns Isaura Bakery in the borough. That’s why they've opened a store in an area available to a diverse group of customers.
“Since it is a need, not a want, we wanted a location that would be accessible to every income level,” Kriney said.
Gluten intolerance is a condition associated with celiac disease that causes the body to react negatively to gluten, a protein in rye, wheat, and barley. One percent of Americans are affected by the disorder, according to the National Council for Celiac Awareness.

Meltzer's Sporting Goods Bidding Garfield Goodbye
GARFIELD, N.J. — With no one to take on the family business, the 101-year-old Meltzer’s Sporting Goods store is closing at the end of the year.
Owner Billy Meltzer, 64, a lifelong Garfield residents, says a perfect storm of events pushed him to surrender the third-generation, family-owned business. As he sees it, he beat the odds.
