Another motorist followed him and called police, who stopped 51-year-old Mark Vandersluys after the hit-and-run Macopin Road crash, authorities said.

He “exhibited signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest for DWI after failing his sobriety tests,” they said.

Vandersluys also was charged with leaving the scene of a crash, failing to report it, failing to maintain a lane, refusing to submit to a breath test and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

His car was impounded for 12 hours and he was released to a friend with a court date, under John’s Law.
