Manhunt for dad in murder of 2-year-old girl ends

HE’S CAUGHT! Federal authorities have captured the New Jersey man wanted for the murder of his 2-year-old daughter. “The wait is over,” a U.S. marshal wrote Tuesday night. “Arthur Morgan’s luck ran out when he answered the door to awaiting federal marshals at a house in California.”

It was 7 p.m. our time when the marshals knocked at the Euclid Avenue apartment in San Diego.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Department is holding Arthur E. Morgan III of Monmouth County man Morgan pending extradition to New Jersey.

Authorities said Morgan killed his 2-year-old daughter, Tierra Morgan-Glover, by tossing her into a tributary of the Shark River in Wall Township while she was still strapped into her car seat.

“Every one of these officers [was] relentless in bringing Morgan to justice and, in turn, hoping to bring some closure to Tierra’s family,” said the Marshal’s Service, which provided the photos.

The FBI this morning issued a national alert for information about Morgan’s whereabouts.

“Law enforcement is working around the clock on this manhunt,” said FBI Special Agent Bryan Travers, asking that people keep a lookout and spread the word (Click here to see the full WANTED poster).

The bald, brown-eyed Morgan — 5’6″ to 5’8″ and about 165 pounds — is 27 and uses a variety of aliases, including Arthur Glover and Eugene Rossi, the FBI said.

He has a tattoo on his left hand and tattoos on both arms, and should be considered armed and dangerous.

“Morgan was supposed to return the child to her mother on September 21st, following a custody visit,” the FBI official release says.

“When Morgan failed to return the child, he was charged in the Ocean County Superior Court with endangering the welfare of a child and interference with child custody, and a state warrant was issued for his arrest.

“Once the child’s body was discovered [on Nov. 22], Morgan was charged with homicide in Monmouth County and federally with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, and state and federal arrest warrants were issued on November 23, 2011,” the FBI said.

Federal agents said that Morgan has ties to California and Texas. And, sure enough….
