Man Beat Up Bus Passenger, Had Guns And Drugs At Newark Penn: Police

An Ohio man was arrested last week at Newark Penn Station after he assaulted a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus, NJ Transit police said in a statement.

Police said the victim approached officers Wednesday shortly before 5 p.m. and identified Curtis Gartrell, 41, as the assailant. The passenger had visible injuries, police said. 

Gartrell, of Marion, tried to run from officers but was quickly captured, the agency said in a statement. 

Gartrell had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was also found with two 9 mm handguns, 86 rounds of ammunition, marijuana and what was believed to be crystal methamphetamine. He also had about $2,000 in cash 

He has been charged with offenses including possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a high-capacity magazine, and if being in possession of weapons while prohibited. He was being held at the Essex County jail.
