The 12-year-old boy was on Lexington Avenue near Unami Park around 6:15 p.m. Monday when a man in a dark-colored sedan stopped in traffic, asked for directions, and also asked if he would follow him, police said. The boy said he was not familiar with the area and continued to head home.

The man never left the vehicle and did not physically contact the boy.

Police took particular interest in the incident because the man involved matches the description of the man in a similar incident that occurred in early October.

The man is described as white, heavyset, around 40 years old and bald. He was wearing a green jacket and was last seen driving towards Garwood.

Police are trying to locate surveillance video and are also asking the public's help identifying the man. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Christopher DiFabio at (908) 709-4640 or Detective Michael Dubitsky at (908) 709-7358.
