The race date was initially set for Mother's Day because the timing company could not do it on the prior weekend. After considering the logistical troubles that might cause -- since numerous roads along the race track would need to be closed for three hours -- the shelter decided to cancel this year.
"We felt it would not be fair to all of those living in the area with scheduling their day plus all others with Mother's Day plans," the shelter noted. "So let us call this a hiatus and see what next year brings."
The shelter is located on Lycosky Drive, in West Milford. Race notwithstanding, if you want to help the shelter, you can always volunteer or donate. To keep up with currently-adoptable critters or find out about other shelter events, visit its website or follow the shelter on Facebook.
