Officers from PBA Local 247 lent a hand at the annual fall event, serving food at the free chicken dinner held by the Ringwood Recreation Department.
"It's important to stay in touch with the people in the community and every once in awhile give back," said Police Officer Matthew Ferraro, PBA president.
Friday's gathering marked a display of a partnership between the police and recreation department, Officer Christopher DePree said, noting that assisting with the dinner was a great opportunity for police and community relations.
"It's great for people to see us not behind the wheel of a patrol car," DePree told Daily Voice, "and get to know us on a personal level.”
The rec department was grateful for the police assistance.
"They're a huge help,” said Kayla Piehler of the recreation department. “We're super thankful.”
In addition to the dinner, a DJ provided music for some dancing as well.
"They get out there, they dance," Piehler said.
The playlist included songs both from the past and some current hits.
