Ringwood volunteers ages 14 to 17 can join Cadet Corps to learn about emergency medical services, advisor Tal Jones said.
Jones said he and his wife saw interest from teens when they attended other functions.
"I was amazed at these young teens getting on the rig, asking questions, seeming to be into what we do," he told Daily Voice.
Members of the squad will visit Lakeland High School at the end of February to talk to students about the program, and will reach out to other schools in the area too, Jones said.
Cadets will ride on the ambulance and help with community activities like blood drives, safety demonstrations and parades.
"It gives them an insight into medical fields, but more than that it's learning how to serve, how to help people," Jones said. "... Hopefully we teach that and when they move on from Ringwood, that goes with them."
Ideally the squad hopes to have 12 cadets in the 14 to 15 age range and another dozen 16- to 17-year-olds, the advisor said.
Jones said he also hopes some will stay on with the squad after they graduate high school.
