Skittles, an Akita-Lab mix, still has red spray paint on her coat, which officials suspect was from "a betting game that we have heard of where pups get spray-painted different colors," organization founder Ashley Gardenier of Ramsey said.

"Whichever color [dog] is the last one alive at the end of the game gets the money."

Skittles, rescued six weeks ago, is friendly and loves anyone she meets. Although she is great with children, due to her breed rescuers are not comfortable placing her in a home with small kids.

"She loves to snuggle and wants to be with you at all times," Gardenier said.

"She never turns down a good belly rub. She loves to play and is full of puppy energy. She would make a great addition to a family with an active lifestyle."
