Bloomingdale police on July 23 responded to a report of shoplifting from a business on Main Street, according to a press release from the BPD.

The officers spoke with a business employee who described a male who had left the business without paying for several candy bars, and also appeared to be intoxicated, the release says.

A short while later the officers located a male who fit the description and identified him Steven Sarmiento of Passaic, who had an outstanding warrant out of West Caldwell, police said.

Sarmiento paid for his stolen candy before being arrested and transported to headquarters where a family member responded and paid bail on the warrant.

He was released to the care of the family member.
