Bloomingdale Foundation Seeks Help With Library Anniversary Events

BLOOMINGDALE, N.J. -- The Bloomingdale Foundation for Literacy will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Bloomingdale Free Public Library with a dinner dance, and seeks help with the advertising book, decorating and clean-up committees.

The dinner dance will be on Saturday, May 14, at the Glen Wild Lake Clubhouse from 6-11 p.m. Tickets are $65 per person.

The anniversary celebration will continue in the Bloomingdale Free Public Library on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Artist Christine will draw caricatures of patrons, Jay Jay the Balloon Guy will entertain children at 11 a.m. and Arnold & Jimmy will provide bass and guitar music. Light refreshments will be provided.

June and July offers summer reading activities for young patrons.

In August, for One Book, One Community, the library offers copies of "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson to young adult and adult readers. Other nature books will be available for younger readers.

Saturday activities will be planned and will include the following:

  • Heino Nowak offers a guided trail hike
  • Gardening classes at Glen Oak Gardens
  • Scavenger hunt for children
  • River clean-up on August 20
  • Butterfly Class by the Master Gardeners
  • Nature Watercolor Painting

In September, Pride Day will feature "Star Wars."
