POMPTON LAKES, N.J. – Support is continuing to pour in for the family of a Pompton Lakes Police Sergeant who died last week after his motorcycle hit a deer in Wayne.
Peter Kamper, 40, of Wayne, “will be remembered by all of us as a large but gentle man who was there for you no matter what time of the day,” states a GoFundMe page created to raise money for his family.
“He was motivated by helping people and doing what he could to ease the burdens of others,” the page states. “Whether he was volunteering at the Special Olympics, the Junior Police Academy, or the holiday toy drive, he was someone that people enjoyed being around.”
More than $10,000 had been raised by Monday afternoon.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for serving and protecting our community,” wrote one donor, Ryan Karpilo.
“I always looked up to you,” wrote Natalie O’Neil, another donor.
Kamper is survived by his wife Christine, father Peter, mother Wendy, brother Michael, and many other close family members and friends.
He was laid to rest over the weekend.
