WEST MILFORD, N.J. -- Happy birthday to West Milford's Lennie Friedman, who played for several NFL teams. He turns 40 on Thursday.

Leonard Lebrecht Friedman was born on Oct. 13, 1976, in Livingston, N.J.

At West Milford High School, Friedman played football and basketball, and ran track and field. According to the National Football League Players Association, he excelled on both offense and defense, "winning all-conference honors as a junior defensive tackle -- setting a school record with 111 tackles -- and as a senior offensive tackle."

He played football at Duke Universoty, where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology, and was drafted by the Broncos. He was with the team for four seasons, though he didn't play in the first year, due to an injury.

Friedman went on to play three seasons with the Redskins, one with the Bears and two with the Browns. He retired in 2009.
