Peters -- who was born in New York City and raised in Englewood -- was actually born Peter Clarke. He changed his name in the '70s, when he moved to England and the actors' trade union there already had several members with his birth name.

His first acting experience was in "My Fair Lady," when he was 12. As an adult, he has appeared on-stage in both London's West End theatre, as well as on Broadway, and has been in a variety of films. He also had a band in the '70s and appeared as a backup singer for others.

But Peters may be best-known to American TV audiences, as Detective Lester Freamon in HBO's "The Wire." He has also had a recurring role, playing Alonzo Quinn on CBS' "Person of Interest," which is in its fifth and presumably final season this year.
