Bazzano hopes to start a recreational exercise program for Ringwood teens ages 13 to 15.

"It's exteremely important to be active," she told Daily Voice. "The obesity rate is frightening. I'm finding with the age group of 8 to 12 is really when [kids are] going to decide if thye're going to be a sports enthusiast. If they're not, let me take them."

Bazzano wants to focus on strength and building up muscle, plus proper form and just burning some calories.

The exercises would be the same as any adult class, which Bazzano said the teens usually like. It can also help them learn how to exercise the right way.

"This way as they get older they'll know the right way to do dead lifts, for example," she said. "You have to do things a certain way to make it effective and not hurt yourself."

Bazzano, an 11-year-resident of Ringwood, said she's waiting to see how much interest there will be around the community in such a program.

She already saw the benefits with her own son, though. Bazzano said enrolling him in similar exercise programs helped him keep his weight under control, she said.
