Reorganized Northern Valley Baseball Knights Hold Tryouts For Players 8-14

Baseball’s Northern Valley Knights are holding tryouts over the next two Saturdays for players 8 through 14 years old from Harrington Park, Northvale, Norwood and Old Tappan.

“Bring your son out to tryouts, encourage him to try everything in this game, work hard, and have fun competing with the same players he will be alongside through high school.”

The Knights program “is under an entirely new group of trustees and board members who are dedicated to building this program into the true NVOT feeder program it was always intended to be,” the organization said.

Iona College Head Coach Pat Carey will conduct the tryouts on Feb. 9 and Feb. 17:

  • 12U to 14U: 8:30 to 10 a.m.
  • 10U and 11U: 10 to 11:30 a.m.
  • 8U and 9U: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There’s a minimum of two tryouts at $25 each, which will be credited to the $475 season fee for players who make the team.

WHERE? The “Viper Den,” 11 Rockland Park Ave., Tappan, NY.

(Makeup tryouts will be scheduled for players who can’t make either date.)

Carey, who’s coached the Gaels the past 13 years, has produced several players drafted in Major League Baseball.

“This should bring us a professional, experienced and unbiased individual to put our teams together,” the Knights boasted.

The NV Knights have teams from 9u (3rd grade) through 14u (8th grade) and operate as a feeder for Northern Valley High School-Old Tappan baseball (NVOT Coach Tim Byron will attend the tryouts).

The non-profit 501-C3 volunteer organization says it “is intended for more competitive players who are looking for a challenge beyond just town recreational sports, and who are ready for a bigger commitment.”

The teams play throughout the state, ordinarily competing in the PBI league (https://www.baseballclinics.com/pbi-baseball-league/) and NEBAS league (www.eteamz.com/summernebasleague).

“A training program will be set in place to improve players skills for winter which will prepare them for spring/summer leagues and tournament play,” the Knights said.

“Bring your son out to tryouts, encourage him to try everything in this game, work hard, and have fun competing with the same players he will be alongside through high school.”
