Old Tappan Athletes Make History: 7 Championships

OLD TAPPAN, N.J. — The Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan  athletics program made school history this year by winning a record seven state championship titles.

The Northern Valley/Old Tappan girls basketball team won the NJSIAA Group 3 title by beating Middletown South.

NVOT won state championships in:

  • Football 
  • Girls volleyball (sectionals and state champions)
  • Boys soccer (sectional champions)
  • Girls basketball (sectionals and state champions)
  • Girls track (sectional champions)
  • Boys track (sectional champions)
  • Golf (sectional and state champions)

The Golden Knights football and volleyball programs also completed undefeated seasons, and the girls volleyball program took home the title at the tournament of champions last fall.

In addition to the state championships, 12 different teams won the Big North division this season, including:

  • Boys and girls cross country
  • Girls basketball
  • Boys winter track
  • Girls winter track
  • Wrestling
  • Baseball
  • Girls spring track
  • Boys spring track
  • Golf

"This is the best year we have ever had at Old Tappan," Athletics Director Thomas Kaechele told Daily Voice. "We looked up the records and nobody has ever produced like we have this year."

"It is a testament to our coaches and our players," he added. "We have a tradition of winning and everybody seemed to follow suit."
