The theme was "Power Up! Learning All Day, Every Day."

Hudson's essay "Math Is Everywhere" earned the top prize in the Pre-K-2 division.

"I thought writing about math would be interesting because I see it everywhere," the first-grader said. "Math is my favorite subject and I use math all day, sometimes without even realizing it."

Ella's essay "Musical Brain" captured second place in the 3-5 division.

"I picked the topic I felt most passionate about, something I was knowledgable in, and dedicated to," the fourth grader said. "I was willing to share the beauty of it with others. The first thing I thought of was my violin."

The brother and sister will both be acknowledged at the NJAGC 25th Annual Conference held on April 15-16 in Somerset.
