The unanimous Thursday evening vote was sparked by the discovery of 67 dogs were found crated in a van overnight behind Just Pups on Route 17.

"It makes me proud that our town was one of the first in Bergen County to adopt this type of ordinance," Mayor Robert White told Daily Voice.

"It's personally uplifting to receive praise from our community for introducing this legislation and to witness the show of concern that our residents have for the welfare of animals."

This was a preventative measure as no township stores sell animals, White added

A "no-knock" policy and an update on the township's social media policy passed on second reading as well.

"Regarding the 'no-knock' I would encourage residents to register with the town," White said. "We are going to have a form available on our township website. The township will issue a press release in the near future with specific details."

The social media ordinance makes slight revisions to the township's policy and employee handbook "to emphasize the importance of deliniating an employee's personal views from those of the township," the mayor said.
