Officers John Rodriguez and Michael Dombroski were dispatched to the Route 17 hotel after management called for help, Police Chief James N. Batelli said.

Besides a refusal to pay, there had been complaints of “excessive noise, knocking on doors, etc., and that the guests had stayed beyond the authorized checkout time,” he said.

Answering the door were Christopher Ryan, 26, of Waldwick – who appeared under the influence of something -- and Daniel Pilszak, 35, of South Amboy, the chief said.

In plain view in the room the officers could see drug paraphernalia and packaging items, along with some pot, he said.

They arrested both men and obtained a consent to search the room, Batelli said.

Besides a large perforated sheet of the LSD tabs, the officers – assisted by Detective Eric Larsen -- found syringes, a glass pipe and a glass tube used for smoking drugs, he said.

Pilszak was charged with possession of the LSD with the intent to distribute it, as well as possession of Xanax without a prescription. He was sent to the Bergen County Jail, where he remained held Tuesday pending a detention hearing.

Ryan – who was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a hypodermic syringe – was “in need of medical assistance” and, so, was taken to New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, the chief said.
