Janis Lee Selman, 69, Of Old Tappan

OLD TAPPAN, N.J. -- Janis Lee Selman, a resident of Old Tappan, died Thursday, May 5. She was 69.

She was born Aug.2,1946, in Topeka, Kan., to the late Norma and Jack Roder.

In the early 2000s, she took up sculpture and became admired for her skill in creating life-like busts. Upon seeing her work for the first time, most people were amazed by her ability to transcend her affliction. She also became known for her imaginative, original gifts that she would bestow on family, friends, doctors and shopkeepers. Her goal in giving these gifts was to make the receiver's day a little brighter. She always succeeded. She worked in the family's forklift truck business. However, she always found time for her family and friends, her dogs, Judaica, astronomy and her beloved Korean soap operas.

She is survived by her two sons, Gregg Schoenberg of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Baron Selman of Fayetteville, Ark.; daughter-in-laws, Zvia and Shelley; and grandchildren, Nanette and Celine.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gary Selman; and her sister, Pamela Roder.

Services will be at 1:15 p.m. Sunday in the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah in Cedar Park Cemetery.
