People's lives are at stake, Passaic County Freeholder Assad Akhter told northjersey.com.

The meal program that feeds over 1,300 shut-ins in Passaic County alone relies on federal funding from the Community Development Block Grant program.

The CDBG grant in Passaic County also helps low-income residents with heating bills and weatherization.

The federal program was established in 1974 to help state and local governments assist people in needy neighborhoods, the CDBG website says.
