As noted in a March Daily Voice article, Toastmasters is a club to improve public speaking and leadership skills, and improve confidence. After club members win at their club level, they move on to the area contests -- then potentially on to the division and district levels.

And the subsequent International competition has two levels, a semifinal and the World Championship of Public Speaking.

John Engeman took first in the International Speech Contest and Mark Warrington took second in the Evaluation Contest. They are both from Ridgewood. Teaneck's Henry Pruitt won first place in the Evaluation Contest, and Jim Tosone, of Westwood, won second in the Evaluation Contest.

The Valley Toastmaster meet on the first and third Monday of each month, from 8-10 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 276 Haworth Ave., in Haworth. Guests are welcome to observe and participate at the meetings.
