Nicknamed "Nails" for his hustle and grit, Dykstra's memoir "House of Nails" tells his life story playing major league baseball, becoming a business mogul, losing it all and serving time in jail.
Dykstra spent a decade in the majors as a center fielder for the 1980s Mets and the 1990s Phillies. He was named to three All-Star teams and played in two World Series.
He writes about an era of steroid, booze and drug-fueled excess in baseball.
After retiring, he became a celebrated business mogul and investment guru. He owned a $17.5-million mansion and traveled the world by private jet. When the economy imploded in 2008, he lost everything.
Dykstra was convicted of bankruptcy fraud (unjustly, he contends), and served two and a half years in prison.
