Habba, 40, who was born and raised in Summit, was the lead attorney for Trump in the E. Jean Carroll v. Donald J. Trump trial, which began in January 2024. She is a managing partner at Habba Madaio & Associates, LLP, a law firm with an office in Bedminster and does not appear to have any experience in federal court.

Earlier this year, Habba came under fire for telling Andrew Tate, who is accused of human trafficking and rape, that she's a "big fan."

Trump made the announcement on Monday, March 24, on Truth Social.

“Alina will lead with the same diligence and conviction that has defined her career, and she will fight tirelessly to secure a Legal System that is both ‘Fair and Just’ for the wonderful people of New Jersey,” he wrote.

Trump also announced a new role for John Giordano, who had been serving as the interim U.S. Attorney in New Jersey, is nominated as the new Ambassador to Namibia.
