Tipped crane not balanced properly?

The operator of a crane lifting a downed tree may have been responsible for it tipping over and into a swimming pool, Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Pine Hill Tree Service of Upper Saddle River was working at 499 Ivy Lane on Friday morning when the weight of the tree “pulled the crane backwards, tipping the vehicle cab in the air,” Fox said. “It damaged a flag pole, pool, in-ground sprinkler, and driveway.”

It took roughly seven and a half hours before another crane operator righted the crane, which was then driven away “on its own power,” the chief said.

“Cause is unknown,” Fox said. “Probably some operator error in stabilizing the crane.”
