The victim, who is in her late 40s, was in stable condition after being struck by the small sedan around 6:40 p.m. at New Milford Avenue and Concord Street, they said.

She apparently had a fractured ankle and burns on her back from the exhaust.

She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The area was cordoned off while authorities collected evidence.
