The Jan. 27-28 overnight melee outside Twins Plus Lounge brought a host of law enforcement agencies, leading to charges against six men.
Four of them were named in the indictment returned today by a grand jury in Hackensack.
The most serious counts were brought against Ernest Brodie and Anthony Pate, who are each charged with the attempted murders of Lukasz Dziewiatkowski, Raphael Carrion Jr. and Benjamin Venegas.
Carrion and Venegas, both of Garfield, are charged with attempted serious bodily injury to Pate.
Venegas, 27, posted $75,000 bail and was released soon after the arrests. Authorities said Brodie deliberately struck him and Dziewiatkowski during the melee after Carrion stabbed Pate.
Brodie, 20, of Harrison, posted $300,000 bail on March 7 and was released.
Pate, 38, of Belleville remained held on $90,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
Carrion, who turned 29 on Friday, remained held on $50,000 bail. He sustained a skull fracture when he was hit in the head with a hammer during the brawl.
Dziewiatkowski, who sustained several broken bones after being hit by the car, was released without bail.
Authorities said Pate and Brodie were with another man, Jesus Colon of Lyndhurst, when they got into a fight with Carrion and Venegas.
The brawl spilled outside the South Main Street bar, where Dziewiatkowski joined the melee, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said at the time.
Brodie then got into his car, parked near the bar, and “intentionally drove into” Dziewiatkowski on Saddle River Avenue before he “turned [it] around, returned to South Main Street, accelerated and intentionally struck Venegas with the vehicle,” the prosecutor said.
Four ambulances were needed to transport the injured.
Colon was treated at HUMC for cuts on his face and leg, then charged with aggravated assault on Carrion and simple assault on Dziewiatkowski. He remained free on $100,000 bail.
Those indicted and the charges:
Ernest Brodie: attempted to cause the death of Dziewatowski and Venegas; attempted serious bodily injury to both Dziewatowski and Venegas while driving a car under “circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.”
Anthony Pate: attempted to cause the death of Rafael Carrion; attempted serious bodily injury or purposeful bodily injury to Carrion and Dziewatowski with a deadly weapon under “circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life; two illegal weapons possession counts (for the hammer).
Raphael Carrion: attempted or knowing bodily injury to Colon with a deadly weapon under “circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life”; recklessly causing serious bodily injury to Pate Anthony; two unlawful weapons possession counts for the knife.
Benjamin Venegas: attempted to cause or did knowingly cause bodily injury to with a deadly weapon under “circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life”; unlawful weapons possession counts for the hammer.
The bar owners and several employees also were cited by South Hackensack Police with 14 violations for various alleged infractions of borough ordinances and ABC laws, Molinelli said.
