Thomas Joseph O'Connor, 89, Longtime Waldwick Resident

WALDWICK, N.J. -- Thomas Joseph O'Connor, of Waldwick, died on Saturday, March 4. He was 89.

Born in Annascaul, County Kerry, Ireland, O'Connor played for the Kerry Minors football team. He emigrated to New York in 1948, where he met his wife. 

He served in the 101st Airborne Division as an MP during the Korean War. He retired from the Port Authority of Nork York and New Jersey in 1976. 

O'Connor lived in Waldwick for 60 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Duffers Club, and a parishioner of St. Luke's Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. 

He is survived by his children, Kevin and P.J. of Waldwick, and Kerry of Johns Creek, Georgia; son-in-law John; daughter-in-law Patricia; grandchildren Tommy, Mary, Patricia, Katie, Erin, Eileen and John; brother Jack of Annascaul; and many nieces and nephews, including Sean O'Connor of New Jersey.

O'Connor was preceded by his wife of 65 years, Virginia (Fearon) O'Connor; parents John and Nora O'Connor; and siblings Sister Ann Dolores and Michael O'Connor, both of Ireland.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday morning, March 7, at St. Luke's Church. Interment was in St. Luke's Cemetery. Vander Plaat Funeral Home, in Wyckoff, assisted with arrangements.
