WALDWICK, N.J. -- Gerasimos Tsongas, of Waldwick and formerly of Palisades Park, died Thursday, Sept 1. He was 74.
Born and raised in Greece, he immigrated to the United States in 1969, residing in Philadelphia and Washington Heights, N.Y. He resided in Palisades Park for 25 years prior to settling in Waldwick.
He was a member of St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Paramus and a past member of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church in Tenafly and Ascension Greek Orthodox Church in Fairview.
He owned several dry cleaning establishments in New York City and New Jersey. Prior to retiring, he was the owner/operator of Venus Cleaners in Fort Lee for 16 years.
He was the husband of Panagiota Tsongas; father of Lucy Papamichael and husband Constantine and Anthi Kesoglou and husband Thomas; and grandfather of Pennie, Teddy, Christos and Mikey.
A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 51 Paramus Road, Paramus. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
