George E. McKenzie,96, Of Waldwick

WALDWICK, N.J. – George E. McKenzie, a resident of Waldwick, died Monday, July 25. He was 96.

Born in Groesbeck, Texas, he lived in Altus, Okla., Clifton and Garfield before moving to Waldwick 12 years ago.

He was a mechanic and welder for Joseph Sanzari Construction, retiring in 1998. Previously, he worked for Michelotti Concrete in Saddle Brook, along with several other construction companies in the area.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe during World War II. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, EAME Campaign Ribbon with five Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, a Service Stripe and three Overseas Service Bars. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons in Headrick, Okla.

He is survived by his children Raymond L. McKenzie and his partner Lorna of Waldwick and Geoirgette Barka and her husband Peter of Midland Park; grandchildren Joy McNally, Edd Monaco and his wife Tami; and great-grandchildren Mecerdes McNally, Eddie and Frankie Monaco.

He was predeceased by his wife Helen; and siblings, John, Obry, Catherine, Odell, Lovell and Etoy.
