Updated: Coronavirus Concerns Cancel Classes Across NJ

Several schools and universities have cancelled classes in an effort to plan ahead and prevent the spread of coronavirus in New Jersey (scroll for complete list).

As of Thursday, there were 29 presumed positive cases in New Jersey, including a 16- and- 17-year-old.

Rutgers University recently announced classes would be held remotely after spring break. Students were strongly encouraged to remain off campus through April 3.

Bergen Community College extended Spring Break a week. Other schools are going online-only for awhile.

Below is a list of other schools that have altered scheduled in response to COVID-19.

  • Bridgewater-Raritan: Early dismissal Monday
  • Brielle: Early dismissal Monday
  • Cedar Grove: Early dismissal March 12
  • College of New Jersey: Two weeks of online classes after Spring Break.
  • Cranford: Closed Monday
  • Drew University: Moving to online and remote instruction March 16. Face-to-face classes have been cancelled.
  • East Brunswick: Schools closed until Monday, March 16
  • Elizabeth: Closing at 12:15 p.m. this Monday for staff meeting regarding coronavirus planning
  • Fairfield: Single-session day March 12
  • FDU: Remote classes begin March 16 after Spring Break.
  • Frisch School: Classes resume March 16.
  • Hillside: Closed Friday
  • Keyport: Early dismissal Thursday and Friday
  • Jackson: Two-hour delayed start Friday
  • Jersey City: Schools close at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for planning.
  • Little Silver: After-school activities cancelled.
  • Middlesex Borough: Schools closed Friday for planning.
  • Millburn: Closed March 12
  • Monmouth University: Classes cancelled this week.
  • Montclair Public Schools: Closed Friday with a staff member self-quarantined and being tested until lab results returned
  • Montclair State: Extended spring break to March 22, with most instruction online beginning March 23 for the majority of the semester
  • New Jersey Institute of Technology: Online-only classes after Spring Break ends March 23.
  • North Brunswick: Closed Thursday out of abundance of caution following confirmed positive test in East Brunswick.
  • People's Prep, Newark: Closed until March 16 after staff member came in contact with confirmed case.
  • Plainfield: Closed Friday for planning
  • Princeton University: Lectures and classes moving to virtual instruction March 23.
  • Red Bank Regional High School: Closed Tuesday after a sibling of a student tested positive.
  • Roselle: Schools closed March 10 and 11 for sanitization.
  • Rowan University: Extended Spring Break.
  • Seton Hall: Classes switching to online format with an update expected March 19.
  • Scotch Plains: Closed Wednesday for planning
  • South Brunswick: Remote learning Thursday and Friday after student possibly exposed to others with coronavirus after attending party in Princeton
  • South River: Closed Thursday
  • Stevens Institute of Technology: All classes held online.
  • Warren Hills Regional: Closed Wednesday for preparedness development planning.
  • Wayne schools: Closed Friday for cleaning
