MIDLAND PARK, N.J. — The A&P on Lake Street will close Saturday and reopen Wednesday, Oct. 14 as ACME.

The Midland Park store is among 71 A&P-owned properties to be purchased by ACME at bankruptcy auction, all of which are slated to be switched over prior to Thanksgiving.

During renovations, the pharmacy will remain open with hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Saturday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

ACME officials told Daily Voice the company intends to make job offers to all of the store-level A&P employees. Store workers confirmed their jobs are secure and they all intend to return to work for ACME next week.

The liquor department, however, will not be back. Those with inside information on the sale told Daily Voice the renewal of the liquor license has been blocked due to the company already owning other liquor licenses under the ACME name.

“We are asking our customers to express their opinions on how they feel about not being able to purchase liquor at their local grocery store,” Amy Supero posted on Facebook, requesting comments be sent to

“Hopefully we can get enough people to voice their opinions to help us re-obtain our liquor license and provide a one-stop shopping experience for our customers,” she added
