The crash happened around 6:13 p.m. on Friday, May 2, in the Closter Plaza parking lot, according to Closter Police Capt. Vincent Aiello.

The victim, identified as Andrea Miller, was loading groceries into her car while facing east when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Julianna Simor of Allendale, police said.

According to investigators, Simor had been backing south out of a handicapped parking space in front of HomeGoods when she continued reversing through the travel lane, over a curb, and across a parking island before striking Miller.

Miller was seriously injured and taken to Hackensack Hospital, where she died two days later on Sunday, May 4, Aiello said.

Simor was issued four summonses: improper backing, careless driving, reckless driving, and unsafe operation. All charges are returnable to Closter Municipal Court on May 20, 2025, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
