Severe Storms Close Roads, Knock Down Trees, Wires In Central Jersey

Firefighters, police and EMS crews responded to numerous storm-related calls on Thursday afternoon in Middlesex and Monmouth counties, authorities said.

High winds and heavy rain were blamed for the closure of Davidson's Mill Road in South Brunswick Township and live power lines down in Keyport, Millstone, Old Bridge Township, Woodbridge Township, Matawan as well as Edison and Middletown -- where there also were initial unconfirmed reports of trees falling on several homes. 

There also was an initial unconfirmed report at 3 p.m. of a road closed by a damaged utility police in East Brunswick near Kingswood Blvd.

Thursday afternoon, meteorologist Joe Cioffi reported that weather continues to be turbulent. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is posted until 4 p.m., Cioffi said, and WInd Advisories are up for strengthening winds this afternoon and evening.
