Eshawn T. Richardson was charged with unlawful possession of an assault firearm, possession of prohibited weapons and a large capacity magazine, obstruction, resisting arrest, disorderly persons and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said.

At 12:07 a.m. Tuesday, Neptune Township police responded to a report of shots fired on a trail between Sunshine Park and Graham Avenue, Gramiccioni said.

Police found an American Tactical Milsport rifle leaded with .223-caliber rounds and other evidence, the prosecutor said.

Patrol officers found Richardson near the trail, according to Gramiccioni.  Richardson fled from on foot but was taken into custody a short time later, he said.

No one was hurt during the shooting,  but investigators found that a home on the opposite side of Route 18 had been damaged by gunfire around the same time police were called, Gramiccioni said.

Richardson was being held at the Monmouth County jail pending a detention hearing.

If convicted of the unlawful possession of a weapons charge, Richardson faces five to 10 years in state prison.

The shooting remains under investigation, and anyone with information if urged to call Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Daniel Newman at 800-533-7443 or Neptune Township Police Detective Mysonn Ledet at 732-988-8000 x420.
