Ocean State Job Lot, a chain of discount stores, bought the former Toys ‘R Us location in Monmouth County, officials said.
Job Lot plans to open its sixth New Jersey store on property across from Freehold Raceway Mall in the fall, OSJL officials said Thursday.
The retailer, headquartered in Rhode Island, operates 146 discount stores across the Northeast including NJ, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and four other New England states.
Ocean State Job Lot recently purchased the vacant Toys ‘R Us store at 600 Trotters Way in Freehold from TRU 2005 RE I, LLC c/o Raider Hill Advisors, OSJL officials said.
The 44,784-square- foot store doesn't plan to share any retail space with other tenants, they said.
Paul Cox, director of store operations for Ocean State Job Lot, said, “We look forward to creating new jobs, filling a large vacancy in a popular shopping center, and providing great values and a friendly shopping experience for the Freehold community.”
Founded in 1977, the chain employs about 5,600 workers across the Northeast. Annual sales exceed $800 million, a spokesman said.
The newest Job Lot plans to hire employees for its Central Jersey store. A total jobs estimate, including construction workers, was not released.
Best known for its "Crazy Deals" and "Insider Club," Ocean State Job Lot sells household goods, clothes, pet supplies and seasonal items for holidays, gardening, kitchen pantries, patios, pools or beach supplies.
Pat Gallagher, Brian Goodwin, David Judd and Brandon Anapol of Metro Commercial brokered the deal..
