Pier Village in Long Branch has enticed a West Coast eatery to expand its franchise to the Garden State..
Hummus Republic, a fast-growing Mediterranean-style restaurant chain from California, will open at Pier Village in October, according to a Kushner Cos. spokesperson
The restaurant -- specializing in customizable bowls, baguettes and pitas -- will open in a 1,500-square-foot space previously leased by Smiley's Cocktails & Eats at 84 Ocean Ave.
"HR food is always made fresh and served quickly using organic, sustainable, and locally grown ingredients whenever possible," company spokesperson Karen Zabarsky said.
The original Hummus Republic opened in 2013 and two years later it partnered with investment group Global Impart Partners to expand the franchise.
The Hummus Republic deal was brokered by Max Swerdloff, Rae Leasing and Amanda Thompson from SGE Realty, Zabarsky said.
Kushner Cos. plans to attract other West Coast retail establishments to Pier Village.
Last month, Pier Village added another new tenant, a 7-Eleven store, which had its grand opening on July 8.
