Update: Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed On NJ Turnpike In Edison

State police have identified the pedestrian killed early Saturday in an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Francisco J. Cespedes-Garcia, 33, of New Brunswick, was struck by a car on the inner northbound side of the turnpike around 4:20 a.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele said Monday.

The incident occurred in the cars-only lanes of the 12-lane highway between exits 9 and 10 in Edison, police said.

Cespedes-Garcia was declared dead at the scene.

The inner three northbound lanes were reopened about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The accident remains under investigation.
