Corey Molinari, of Whippany, was thrown from a pontoon boat after the vessel struck a marker near the Route 37 bridge in Barnegat Bay around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

He was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center with serious injuries and later died.

Four others suffered non life-threatening injuries in the crash.

A GoFundMe launched collectively by the Whippany Park Class of 2020 has raised more than $2,800 for a scholarship fund for their late classmate in less than 12 hours.

“Whippany Park class of 2020 has started this GoFundMe as our community mourns the loss of Corey Molinari,” reads the fundraiser, which has an end goal of $10,000.

“We as a class want to support the Molinari family during this unimaginable time. All donations will go to a scholarship in honor of Corey.”
