Trenton Teenager Killed, 2 Hospitalized In I-195 Crash

State police have identified the teenage passenger killed in a crash Thursday when a car ran off Interstate-195 in Mercer County.

Yelitza Rivera, 16, of Trenton, NJ sustained fatal injuries, according to state police.

The crash occurred near Exit 3B of I-195 westbound in Hamilton Township at 6:39 p.m., police said. A Mitsubishi left the highway and overturned, state police said.

All three of the car’s occupants were taken to Capital Health in Hamilton where Rivera was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Karla Sanchez, 22, of Trenton was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. A second passenger, a 16-year-old girl from Hamilton Township, sustained moderate injuries, police said.

The cause of the one-car crash remains under investigation.

Born in Trenton on Feb, 9, 2004 Yelitza Rivera was a lifelong area resident. She had finished her freshman year at Trenton Central High School where she was on the Color Guard..She loved to dance, listen to music, hang out with her many close friends, and shop especially for sneakers. She was into anything beauty related and loved to do her nails and look pretty. She had a vibrant personality and could easily put a smile on the face of others.
