A thief who broke into a Clifton resident's locked vehicle pulled a knife on him before fleeing with his power tools, authorities said.
It was shortly before 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, when the blare of a vehicle alarm awoke the owner, Police Lt. Robert Anderson said.
The owner, who lives near the corner of Center and Holden streets, ran outside to find the car burglar fleeing with a high-end power tool, Anderson said.
The victim chased after the thief, who tossed the tool into a waiting car, then turned and brandished a large knife, the lieutenant said.

New Milford police cracked a string of vehicle burglaries with the arrest of a Teaneck man, authorities said.
Four different vehicles were burglarized overnight in different parts of town, with victims reporting cash, credit cards, debit cards, personal ID and gift cards taken, Detective Lt. Kevin Van Saders said Tuesday.
One of the debit cards was used to make a purchase in River Edge shortly after the June 22 thefts, he said.

Clifton patrol officers captured two men and recovered a trove of valuables taken from at least eight vehicles that they said their owners had left unlocked.
Among the items taken with little effort were cash, checks, cellular phones, a purse, power tools and a tablet, they said.
Officers were responding to a report of a vehicle burglary on Clinton Avenue when they spotted Mauricio Mejia, 18, of Clifton and Christian Martinez, 19, of Passaic, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said.

Clifton police caught a trio of teens from Dumont, East Rutherford and Wayne burglarizing vehicles overnight, authorities said.
Responding officers called to the area of Lockwood Place and Joyce Lane found the three testing door handles, Detective Sgt. Robert Anderson said.
They ran when they saw police but were quickly captured trying to hide in a nearby parking lot, Anderson said.

A string of pre-dawn Prospect Park vehicle burglaries ended when a rookie police officer nabbed a Paterson man in the act, authorities said.
Officer Yeisy Reyes Jr. was on patrol when he spotted Wesley Bethea, 51, testing car-door handles in the area of Hopper Street and Brown Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Capt. Ammen Matari said.
