Three Hospitalized When Vans Collide In Ho-Ho-Kus
Three people were hospitalized in a Ho-Ho-Kus crash Tuesday, Oct. 11. The minivan and the work van collided at the intersection of Wearimus and Deerhill roads sometime in the afternoon hours. Both occupants of the minivan, a man and woman, were hospitalized, as was the driver of the work van. The minivan driver was apparently issued a summons. Both vehicles were towed by CityWide towing. A raging fire ravaged a Mahwah home. The fire ignited in the attached three-car garage and raced through the nearly $1.5 million home set back off a long driveway near Young World Day School on Wyckoff Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1. Popping sounds heard during a fire involving two structures and multiple vehicles in Washington Township weren't from ammunition, as some neighbors and witnesses surmised, local authorities said. The Pascack Road homeowner was out when paint cans apparently combusted in what became an intense, three-alarm fire across the street from Memorial Field late Friday afternoon, they said. Gym Fire Doused Off Route 17
Firefighters doused an early-morning commercial blaze off Route 17. The two-alarm fire broke out in a building that houses Powerhouse Gym on McKee Drive in Mahwah around 7 a.m. Firefighters had it knocked down in under a half-hour. Island Road was temporarily closed. No injuries were reported. Mahwah firefighters brought their fan boat to ventilate the building. Mutual aid responders requested either at the scene or in coverage included firefighters from Ramsey, Montvale, Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus, as well as Hilburn, Hillcrest, Sloatsburg, Suffern and Tallman.

Train Service In NW Bergen Disrupted By Man Standing On Tracks
Commuter rail service was disrupted in northwest Bergen County after a man stood on the tracks Wednesday afternoon and refused to move, authorities said. Police were called as NJ TRANSIT diverted at least two trains around the man, who parked himself between the Ho-Ho-Kus and Waldwick stations around 3:30 p.m. The man finally relented and walked to the Ho-Ho-Kus station at Brookside Avenue and 1st Street, where he was taken into custody. A Bergen County ex-con with a violent history had been free all of two days when he started up again, authorities said. Justinian Rocco, 25, of Allendale was released from custody only two weeks ago. He’d spent two years behind bars for laying down on a railroad track, stopping NJ Transit service and fighting with police who arrested him. A driver escaped injury Friday morning when his van barreled off the road and into a wooded area in Ho-Ho-Kus. The Hawthorne drywall contractor's vehicle crashed on Werimus Road off Deerhill Road near a southbound exit from the Garden State Parkway. Citywide Towing removed the van with a flatbed. North Jersey Strip Club Owner Charged With Sexually Assaulting Dancer
The Bergen County owner of a Paterson strip club sexually assaulted one of his dancers, authorities charged. John Acunto, 62, of Ho-Ho-Kus was arrested in connection with a series of incidents in a "VIP room" at Johnny A’s Hitching Post on Barclay Avenue just off Valley Road and Route 19, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said. Paterson police initially had responded to a report of a sexual assault at the club last Sept. 28, Valdes said. An apparently accidental weekend fire that claimed the life of a Bergen County teenager has staggered many in the community where she was raised, as well as others from area towns and beyond. Riley Boyle, 17, was in the shower when the fire broke out close to the rear entrance of the 2½-story Bonnie Way home around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, responders said. Stuck Truck Blocks NW Bergen Road
A struck delivery truck blocked a northwest Bergen County artery for more than an hour. The driver had been turning into a Ho-Ho-Kus resident's driveway on East Saddle River Road near Fox Run when the mishap occurred on Saturday, May 14. The driver and his helpers weren't injured.
