Roth, a 23-year resident of Mahwah, has a history of leadership roles with the Township. Nearly two decades ago, he served on the Board of Education for five years, followed by a two-year appointment to the Planning Board. He was elected to the Town Council in 2004. During his 12-year term, he was elected vice president twice and president for four terms -- the office he currently holds.
Roth is a retired marketing executive, with a 40-year career in the marketing and communications business, working with global clients, domestically and internationally. He retired from Lowe Worldwide as executive vice president, managing director after more than15 years in various senior management positions. The company employs over 100,000 people worldwide.
"I am running for mayor to protect and preserve the unique character, culture and inherent goodness that makes Mahwah so unique," Roth said. "Right now we have a legacy of failure with the present mayor.
"We have had four years of reckless, thoughtless, inexperienced management that has resulted in employee harassment, wasted tax dollars in the hundreds of thousand dollars and precipitated a federal lawsuit with the potential for enormous consequences on our taxes. We need a mayor with integrity who will put Mahwah first. We need a management course correction guided by a proper moral compass."
He said he believes that he has a unique combination of senior corporate management skills and in-depth experience with virtually every level of Mahwah's operations and a proven track record of cutting costs in Mahwah, altering management systems for greater efficiency and leveraging technology to save taxpayer dollars.
Additionally, he said that he believes the Township needs and deserves better management and a mayor who will be responsible, reliable and respectful -- and that a vote for him will help bring about these changes and put Mahwah back on the right track.
