MAHWAH, N.J. -- A married Greenwood Lake gas station worker was charged with sexually abusing a Mahwah girl when she was between 6 and 7 years old.
Christopher M. Helbig, 32, was being held on $100,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with two counts of sexual assault and with child endangerment.
A caseworker from the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Mahwah police that the girl -- now a teenager -- told a caseworker and therapist that she was "sexually assaulted on multiple occasions" by Helbig, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said Wednesday.
