The city worked with the Red Cross and the county's office of emergency management to arrangement temporary housing for those without a place to stay after the 2 a.m. fire.

The shelter is located at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, 85 Hamilton Ave.

Red Cross volunteers will remain available at the shelter to assist the families with health services, mental health services and recovery planning.

A Carlstadt fireman remains hospitalized after the four-alarm fire tore, according to multiple news reports.

A Passaic firefighter was released after being treated for smoke inhalation and five residents of 99 Gregory St. were treated for minor injuries, Northjersey.com says.

It took two hours to knock the fire down due to complications caused by strong winds, reports say.

A cause has yet to be determined.
