The burglary happened on Friday, March 21, when officers responded to a burglary alarm at the Burger King on Pike Street at around 2:18 a.m. The alarm system had detected motion in multiple areas of the restaurant, including the dining room, kitchen, and drive-thru window, Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden announced on Saturday, April 5.

When officers arrived, they reportedly saw lights on inside and a boy throwing items around. The teen then fled the scene toward the nearby train tracks but was quickly caught after a short foot chase. He was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Detectives were called in to assist with the investigation, which resulted in the teen being charged in Orange County Family Court as a Juvenile Delinquent.

If he were an adult, the charges would constitute:

  • Second-degree criminal mischief;
  • Third-degree burglary;
  • Attempted petit larceny.

The teen, who is from Mahwah, New Jersey, will face the charges in Orange County Family Court.
