Laforet, Marshall and seniors from the team signed footballs that were presented to children with disabilities during halftime of the 38-7 victory game against Mountain Lakes.
"Both Leonard and I share a special interest for these children in Mahwah," said Laforet. "We are thrilled that we can help these children and allow them to experience a Mahwah football game in a unique way, in which they met the players during pre-game and watched with them on the sidelines," he said.
Mahwah's football team, coached by Jeff Remo, has advanced to the North 1, Group 2 playoffs and will face Glen Rock on Friday, Nov. 11.
The idea to recognize children with special needs came from both Laforet and Marshall, who have always had a keen interest in serving their community.
"We wanted to give those kids an experience that they never had before," said Laforet. "We wanted to make this experience an opportunity for these kids and their families to be part of the greater community."
Marshall, a Mahwah resident for over 30 years, played twelve seasons in the National Football League and was twice selected for the Pro Bowl while playing for the Giants.
"Leonard and I have known each other since his rookie year with the Giants," said Laforet. "To help the team perform against Mountain Lakes, we spent some time practicing with the football team, then we then got all seniors to sign some footballs and gave them to special needs kids during the game," he said.
"I think it was a great opportunity for our entire town to come together for a great community event," said Laforet.
