MAHWAH, N.J. – Caregivers need care, too.

And they can learn how to take better care of themselves at an upcoming workshop at Ramapo College in Mahwah.

The Krame Center for Contemplative Studies and Mindful Living at the college is hosting “Self-Healing for Caregivers,” on Friday, Nov. 18.

The day-long workshop is designed to help caregivers – like parents and those caring for the elderly or chronically ill as well as social workers and health care professionals – create plans to ensure they are taking care of themselves, so they can continue taking care of others.

The program “is ideal for healthcare professionals, caregivers and members of the community who are interested in formulating an ongoing practice for resilience and self-care for burnout, moral distress syndrome, and vicarious traumatization,” according to a press release from the college.

Presenters include Dr. Michael Kearney, an author and medical director of the Palliative Care Service at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, and Dr. Radhule Weininger, a clinical psychologist, author and meditation teacher.

During the workshop, the pair plan to explore ways to experience healing through mindfulness meditation and the sensory engagement with nature. “Participants will formulate customized self-care plans and discuss how to bring these insights back to into the clinical setting,” the release states.

The workshop will be held in the Trustees Pavilion on campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $120 per person, or $25 for Ramapo College students. For more information or to register for the event, visit .
